Rangabali: Swarnaprabha's play at the book fair
Farzana Naz Swarnaprabha has secured first place in her undergraduate (honors) and postgraduate examinations in drama and dramaturgy from Jahangirnagar University. She is currently working as an assistant professor in the Department of Theater and Performance Studies at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University. Her first book 'Rangabali' has been published at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair. It is an original play. When asked about her feelings about publishing her first book, she said, "I come to the book fair every time. This year's book fair is a little different. I am debuting as a first author. I am getting to know many readers and writers. It feels good."
She has been writing Rangabali for 12 years. The story of Rangabali was first written as part of the original stage play writing of the drama writing group while she was studying in the postgraduate class. After that, she refined the play for a long time. Finally, she felt that the play could be presented to the readers as a book. In this regard, she said, "The first manuscript and the one that has now been published in book form are completely different. Rangabali's body has changed over time. In my first thought, Rangabali was a child or a sprouted seed, but it has now developed into a full-fledged tree. The myth of Matsyagandha Nari Yojanagandha in the Mahabharata and the myth of Matsakumari in the West gave me the courage to write a new play in the light of the mythological story of Meenkumari, where the immortal love story of Orpheus-Euridice in Greek myth also provided encouragement. But in the end, the play is completely contemporary in reality."
The play has not been staged. However, she wants the play to be staged. Although she thinks staging is a bit challenging. The play uses a lot of songs. She also wrote the songs. The songs came because of the need for the play. However, she thinks that reading the play will also be enjoyable. In this context, he quoted Rabindranath Tagore, “The idea of drama should be such that ‘If my drama is acted, then it will be, if not, then I am a burnt-out actor, I have no loss.’” Swarnaprabha said, “The same is the wish of the opinionated Rangabali. When a drama is staged, many people are involved in it. The director, the actor-actress-composer, other artists; but when someone is reading a drama, a connection is established only with the playwright and the reader.” She said that he is enjoying this connection. She needs this connection more.
Apart from drama, she writes poems and stories. She wants to write novels. She is serious about writing and studying. She wants to write dramas for television as well. Naturally, drama books do not sell well in our book fairs. As a result, she had to struggle to publish the book in book form. The book has been published by Itadi Grantho Prokash.
