Rashid Khan becomes highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket
Afghanistan's star spinner, Rashid Khan, made history by becoming the highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket. The 26-year-old wristspinner surpassed West Indian legend Dwayne Bravo's tally of 631 wickets during the SA20 qualifier 1 against Paarl Royals on Tuesday when he dismissed Dunith Wellalage.
After his team's victory, Rashid shared his excitement with the host broadcaster, stating, "It's a great achievement. I never thought about it, and if you asked me 10 years ago if I would reach this level, I wouldn't have imagined it. It's a proud feeling to be from Afghanistan and top the table. DJ Bravo is one of the best T20 bowlers, and it's a great honour. I'm looking forward to continuing."
Rashid made his T20 debut as a teenager in October 2015. With 633 wickets in just 461 matches at an impressive average of 18.07 and an economy rate of 6.49, Rashid has redefined the art of leg-spin in T20 cricket. His ability to bowl quickly through the air and keep the stumps in play made him an extremely difficult bowler for opponents. Rashid has claimed 20 hauls of four wickets or more, solidifying his reputation as one of the game's best.
Bravo, who had held the record since 2016, finished his career with 631 wickets. Rashid's achievement cements his status as a T20 cricket icon.
