Road mishap kills land official while returning after distributing relief in Cumilla
A sub-assistant officer of land ministry was killed in a road accident while returning home after distributing relief at flood-affected Manoharganj upazila in Cumilla.
Four people were seriously injured in the accident, said Director of Cumilla Medical College Sheikh Md Fazle Rabbi.
The accident took place at Kapastala under Lalmai upazila in the district on Friday (August 30) night.
The deceased has been identified as Anisur Rahman, son of Ali Akbar from Namtala village at Burichong upazila in Cumilla. He is the land sub-assistant officer at Teriail union under Sitakunda upazila in Chattogram.
Anisur went to Manoharganj on Friday (August 30) morning by a tractor with a volunteer team of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) to provide food aid to the flood victims. They distributed food among at least 2,000 people in Barakeshtala and Lal Chandpur villages.
Moynal Hossain, one of the injured, said, "On the way back from Manoharganj, Anisur Rahman's tractor collided with a covered van when they reached Kapastala area of Lalmai upazila. As a result, the tractor overturned, leaving Anisur dead on the spot and seriously injuring five people.
Another injured Golam Rabbi said Anisur hailed from Cumilla, so he was repeatedly making inquiries in the area to help the flood victims. As Friday was a holiday, he came to Manoharganj in coordination with local volunteers.
Laksam Crossing Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Morshed Alam said, "Anisur was rushed to Cumilla Medical College and Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. The injured are also being treated there."
