In front of Barun Barman Market, near Gulshan 2 DCC Market in Dhaka, two individuals, including the owner of City Monetary Exchange, have reportedly been attacked and injured before being robbed of approximately Tk1.5 crore.

The robbery occurred on Tuesday night and left A Kader Shikder, 35, the owner, and his brother-in-law, Amir Hamza, 25 injured.

According to Kader's younger brother, Mintu Shikder, Kader was returning home in Gulshan 1 on a motorcycle with Amir after closing his business.

As they neared DCC Market, a group of 15 to 20 assailants intercepted them, initially striking them with rods to knock them down, Mintu said.

They were then beaten with helmets and bricks and eventually hacked with sharp weapons, he said, adding that the attackers fled with a bag containing approximately Tk1 crore in cash.

Upon receiving information, they were rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) the same night.

DMCH police outpost's Inspector Md Faruk confirmed the attack and stated that the relevant police station has been informed.

Mintu Shikder further alleged that four months ago, a "criminal" named Yasin Shikder and his associates had abducted him and taken Tk79 lakh.

Kader had filed a case against Yasin at the time, leading to his being jailed.

Recently, Yasin was released on bail and had been threatening them to withdraw the case.

Mintu suspects that Yasin orchestrated this attack through his associates.
