Rohingya community leader shot dead
A Rohingya community leader was gunned down in the refugee camp in Ukhiya of Cox's Bazar early Monday over a dispute allegedly for establishing supremacy.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Ilias, 43, the head majhi of the C3 block of Rohingya Camp extension-4.
Ukhiya Police Station OC Shamim Hossain said a group of 10 to 15 miscreants took him behind the nearby Handicap International office after breaking open the door of his house.
Then, the assailants fired several rounds of bullets at him and he died on the spot, the police officer added.
The miscreants fled the spot before the arrival of law enforcement members.
The police officer said they got information about the involvement of Myanmar's separatist organisation Arsa in the incident.
He said police started operations to find out the motive behind the incident and to arrest the perpetrators.
The body of the deceased was sent to Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
