Salary-bonus paid in 100% RMG factories: BGMEA

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), an association of garment industry owners, has claimed that the salaries for the month of Mrach and festival allowances have been paid in 100 percent of readymade garment (RMG) factories before Eid to be celebrated tomorrow (March 11).

BGMEA President SM Mannan Kochi claimed this at a press conference organized at the association’s Uttara office in the capital on Wednesday (April 10).

He said initially 600 factories were identified, which were facing financial problems in payment of salaries and bonuses.

As a result of the monitoring by 22 committees consisting of 50 people nationwide, the number of highly vulnerable factories has reduced to 25 in terms of payment of wages and allowances to workers.

With the intervention of BGMEA, the dues of the workers in those 25 factories have also been cleared.

All BGMEA member factories have paid the salary and Eid bonus to the workers for the month of March, he claimed.
