Saving lives of 71: Praises pours in for Captain Jamil Billah
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight landed safely in Dhaka yesterday despite losing a wheel from its left side main landing gear shortly after it took off. However, even in that dangerous situation, Biman pilot Captain Jamil Billah set an example with great skill and bravery. Due to his skill, composure and quick decision-making, 71 passengers were able to reach their destination safely. Now the whole country is pouring in praise for this brave pilot.
Dramatic takeoff and critical situation
On Friday (May 16), Bangladesh Biman domestic flight BG 436-4A took off from Cox's Bazar Airport at 1:20pm. Immediately after takeoff, the control tower noticed that one of the plane's wheels was lying on the runway. When the matter was immediately reported to Dhaka, preparations were made for an emergency landing at Shahjalal International Airport.
An example of courage, composure and professionalism
Despite the dire situation, Captain Jamil Billah conducted the flight with great calmness and professionalism. After repeatedly contacting the control tower, he decided to land precisely by keeping the fuel under control. Finally, the plane landed safely at around 2:20pm.
Brave pilot Jamil Billah
By landing the plane safely, Captain Jamil Billah has proven his extraordinary skills and professionalism. He is an experienced and trained aviation officer, who has successfully operated the plane in critical situations in the past.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines General Manager (Public Relations) ABM Rawshan Kabir said: "Captain Jamil Billah is a very experienced and qualified pilot. It is because of his quick decisions and professionalism that the passengers were able to land safely."
Aviation sources say that Captain Jamil Billah has 8,000 hours of flying experience.
Passengers' unknown fears
The most surprising aspect is that none of the passengers inside the plane knew they were facing a potentially horrific accident. Although everything seemed normal inside the plane, there was tension and alertness outside.
A passenger said that there was a slight jolt during landing, but it didn't feel like much.
"When I saw the fire service and ambulance standing on the runway after landing, I understood what could have happened," said one passenger.
Another passenger said: "We didn't know anything. Everything was going on normally inside the plane. If the pilot hadn't known or taken proper measures, we might not be alive today.
The airport was ready
In Dhaka, the runway was temporarily closed on an emergency basis and fire service, ambulance and security forces were kept ready on both sides. The pilot contacted the control tower several times and took a precise final approach while keeping the fuel under control.
Investigation committee formed
Biman Bangladesh authorities have already formed an investigation committee, headed by Chief of Safety Captain Enam Talukder. The authorities said that incidents like the wheel coming off are very serious. Necessary steps will be taken to avoid such accidents in the future.
Captain and cabin crew are in praise
Common people are expressing gratitude and praise for pilot Jamil Billah and the cabin crew on social media.
One netizen wrote: "It would not have been possible to save so many people without the restraint and skill of the pilot in such a difficult moment."
Another wrote: "Biman Bangladesh has set an example. Everyone should now know about the quality of their pilots."
Experts view
Aviation experts say that mechanical faults can happen at any time, but with skilled pilots, even major accidents can be avoided. This incident on the Cox’s Bazar-Dhaka flight is real proof of that.
