Schoolboy among 4 killed in lightning strike in Mymensingh

Four people, including a schoolboy, were killed in separate lightning strikes in Nakla, Nalitabari, Nandail and Gafargaon in Mymensingh division.

These incidents took place on Saturday (May 31) afternoon. Two cows were also killed in the lightning strike in Gafargaon.

The deceased are--Chhamir Uddin, 55, of Paschim Barapagla village in Talki union of Nakla, Sherpur, Hazera Begum, 45, of Purba Manikkura village in Kakarkandi union of Nalitabari, Md. Saidul Islam, 12, a school student of Kamalpur village in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh, and farmer Sohag Mia, 40, of Lamkain village in Gafargaon upazila.

Sohag Mia was killed in a lightning strike on the banks of the Brahmaputra river in Gafargaon. His two cows also died at that time. The deceased, Sohag Mia, is the son of Hazrat Ali Qari of the village. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pagla Police Station Ferdous Alam confirmed the matter.

In Nalitabari, Hazera Begum was killed by lightning strike in the Hajimor area of ​​Manikkura village around 1:30 pm while trying to bring her granddaughter from the madrasa.

On the other hand, Chhamir Uddin lost his life in a lightning strike around noon while trying to bring a cow from the field. Injured Chhamir was rescued and taken to the Nakla Upazila Health Complex where the doctor declared him dead.

Schoolboy Md. Saidul Islam died in a lightning strike in Kamalpur village of Moazzempur union in Nandail. He was a sixth-grade student of a school in Gazipur's Maona area. He had come home with his father during the Eid vacation. Saidul was injured by lightning while playing with children near the house. Later, he was taken to the hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Nandail Model Police Station OC Mohammad Anwar Hossain confirmed the matter.
