Schools, colleges to open Sunday: Education ministry
Schools and colleges which are now closed due to the ongoing heatwave will open on Sunday next.
According to a notification of the education ministry issued Thursday (April 25), classes will continue on Saturdays until further instructions to meet the learning loss caused by the heatwave closure.
However, before the issuance of the notification, in response to a question from journalists regarding the extension of closure of educational institutions, State Minister for Education Begum Shamsun Nahar said that a new decision will be made on Saturday whether it will be extended or not after monitoring the ongoing heatwave situation.
However, within a few hours of the state minister’s comment, the education ministry announced the decision.
The notification said assembly will remain closed until the temperature comes down to a tolerable level. The portion of class activities outside the classroom under the sunlight will be limited.
Meanwhile, observing that the children of Bangladesh are at "very high risk" under the effects of climate change, UNICEF has urged the government to take extra precautions in this regard.
Mentionable, school-college holidays were extended for another seven days after the Eid vacation due to the intense heat wave sweeping over the country. That holiday ends next Saturday.
