Three Bangladeshi workers have been killed in separate incidents in Iskandar Puteri and Malacca cities in Malaysia.

Two Bangladeshi workers have died following severe injuries sustained in the Southern Industrial and Logistics Clusters (SILC) fire in Iskandar Puteri city, while a third remains hospitalised.

District police Chief Assistant Commissioner M Kumarasan confirmed the deaths, reported New Straits Times.

The fire began around 11:30 am on Thursday, at one factory before spreading to nearby units in the SILC industrial area.

The workers, aged 30 to 40, escaped the flames with first-degree burns on 30 per cent of their bodies and were taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatment.

The first victim passed away at 10:00 pm on Friday, with the second following at 2.15 am on Saturday. The status of the third injured worker remains undisclosed.

In Malacca city, a Bangladeshi construction worker died while two others survived in a building collapse incident at Jalan Bukit Senjuang constituency in the city of Malaysia on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Jidan, 22, according to Kuala Lumpur-based online newspaper The Malay Mail.

Melaka Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the victim was found in the rubble at 9.55 pm but was only successfully removed from the rubble at 12.16 midnight.

“The two survivors, Zubair Ahmed, 32, and Abbas Ghulam, 49, both Pakistani nationals, suffered injuries in several parts of the body including the neck, shoulder and head. They were pulled out of the rubble at 6.40 pm and 8.45 pm tonight respectively.

“The two victims are now receiving treatment at Hospital Melaka,” he told the media when met at the location.

“The fire brigade managed to remove the victims from the rubble involving a one-storey building structure measuring 18.3 metres x 24.4 metres which is still under construction,” he said.
