Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed his disappointment over Shakib Al Hasan not getting a farewell Test at home, calling the situation "very unfortunate." Shakib was initially included in the squad for the first Test against South Africa but was told not to return to Bangladesh due to security concerns.

The government’s decision meant that Shakib's farewell at home was not possible, and left-arm spinner Hasan Murad was called in as his replacement.

During a press conference in Mirpur on Sunday, Shanto acknowledged the significance of Shakib's absence. He said, "Very unfortunate (Shakib not getting a farewell Test at home). It should have been but we all know why it didn't happen. The whole team feels that this farewell is still pending, but we must focus on the match ahead."

The first Test against South Africa starts on Monday, and Shanto admitted that last-minute changes to the team’s plans have been challenging.

"We are struggling to find the right combination, but I believe everyone in the team is capable and will give their best effort," he added.
