Shamsul Haque Foundation will provide care for Miton's shelter residents: Harun
Alhaj Shamsul Haque Foundation is going to take the responsibility for the care of elderly, children, and sick individuals at the controversial Milton Samaddar Child and Old Age Care. The chairman of the foundation conveyed this commitment to DB.
Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid, Additional Commissioner of Police of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB), provided this information while addressing the journalists at a press conference held at the DB office on Monday (May 6).
Harun-or-Rashid stated, "Alhaj Shamsul Haque Foundation has shown interest in providing comprehensive support, including food and shelter, for orphans, children, the elderly, and paralyzed individuals at the Milton Samaddar ashram. The organization's representative met with us yesterday, and we have requested their assistance."
For nearly a decade, Milton Samaddar has operated a shelter to accommodate vulnerable women, children, and elderly individuals found on the streets. Through his establishment known as 'Child and Old Age Care,' he has not only provided shelter but also offered medical assistance and facilitated burial arrangements for those in need.
Recently, Milton has faced allegations of engaging in various irregularities, such as fabricating fake death certificates through fraudulent means under the pretext of providing humanitarian services. Subsequently, following negative reports across multiple media, he was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) on the night of May 1st.
Following these events, the shelter has plunged into a multifaceted crisis, raising concerns about the future of the remaining dependents. Alhaj Shamsul Haque Foundation has shown willingness to shoulder the responsibility for the children and elderly individuals who find themselves amidst this uncertainty.
