Shomi Kaiser held

Police have arrested Shomi Kaiser, actress and former president of E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh, in a case filed with Uttara Police Station.

She was arrested from Uttara in the capital around 12:30am on Wednesday (6 November), Rownok Jahan, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told local media outlets.

On 9 October, BNP activist Syed Hasan Mahmud filed a case against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Shomi Kaiser, folk singer and former lawmaker Momtaz Begum, former minister Tarana Halim, and 13 others accusing them of attempting to kill him in June 2022.

Mahmud filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Belal Hossain.

Shomi Kaiser will be shown arrested in the case, Rownok Jahan said.

Shomi Kaiser is the daughter of Bangladeshi writer-novelist Shahidullah Kaiser and writer and former lawmaker Panna Kaiser.
