Singapore's envoy holds meeting with BNP delegates
High Commissioner of the Singapore Embassy Derek Loh met with a delegation of Bangladesh Nationalist Party at the Chairperson's Office in Gulshan on Sunday (10 November).
The Singapore-flagged car carrying the high commissioner entered BNP's Gulshan office at 9:30am. A meeting was held between Derek and BNP's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir after that.
Chargé d'affaires of Singapore Embassy Michel Loh, Desk Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore Rahul Abraham accompanied Derek during this time, while BNP's Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Member of BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council Enamul Haque Chowdhury and Member of BNP's International Affairs Committee Shama Obaid were present with Fakhrul.
At a press briefing after the meeting, Amir Khasru said it was a courtesy call and detailed discussion was held on issues regarding the interests of both countries.
"Both countries believed that the issues regarding economic activities and investment will be easier to deal with if there is an elected government in Bangladesh," Amir Khasru said.
Amir Khasru also said both countries have discussed how Bangladesh could send skilled workforce to Singapore.
"Singapore needs a lot of nurse. They are interested in taking skilled manpower. They also want to provide us with investment and technical expertise through various institutions," Amir Khasru added.
During the briefing, Amir Khasru further said Singapore is apt at managing ports and they have shown an interest in helping Bangladesh to develop their ports.
"Singapore has also expressed interest to work in sectors like health, education, shipbuilding, energy and finance," Amir Khasru further said.
