Six put on remand in metro rail station vandalizing case
A court in Dhaka has placed six people including a journalist on a five-day remand each in a case lodged for vandalizing Kazipara Metro Rail Station in the capital's Mirpur.
The six accused who have been remanded are journalist Hafiz Al Asad, also known as Sayeed Khan, along with Sanaul Haque Niru, Alamgir, Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, also known as Nayeem, Abdul Aziz Sultan, and Mayeen.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arobia Khanam issued the order after the police presented the accused in court and requested a 10-day remand for each.
According to the case documents, a mob of five to six thousand people ransacked Kazipara Metro Rail Station from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm on July 19. They looted expensive equipment and destroyed all the windows, screens, and ticket vending machines, among other items.
The investigation officer in his remand plea said the station suffered a loss of around Taka 100 crore by the vandals and the arrestees took part in the anarchy as per their conspiracy to destabilize and ultimately topple the government.
