Spectators vandalize Mirpur Stadium ticket booth

The 11th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has begun. Dhaka Capitals-Durbar Rajshahi and Fortune Barisal-Rangpur Riders will face each other on Thursday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

However, before the match, a fire broke out at the ticket booth at Gate No. 5 adjacent to the stadium's swimming pool. The stadium authorities say that the excited crowd, angered by not getting BPL tickets, set the booth on fire and vandalized it.

It is learned that the spectators had been waiting for tickets at the Mirpur Swimming Complex since morning. The BCB had arranged for tickets at the booth there in addition to online. However, by 11:30 am, the spectators started pushing the bamboo fence. Later, the spectators broke the gate and entered and vandalized the booth. At one point, the agitators set it on fire. Later, the fire service brought the fire under control.

Following the incident, law enforcement officers have cordoned off the area. Currently, the army and RAB have been deployed there in addition to the police.
