Squadron Leader Asim Jawad laid to rest with state honour
Squadron Leader Muhammad Asim Jawad, who died in a training fighter plane crash in Chattogram on Thursday, was laid to rest with state honour at his birthplace in Manikganj on Friday (May 10). The Sword of Honour-winning brilliant officer of Bangladesh Air Force was laid to eternal rest after Juma prayer at a graveyard in the district town.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) conveyed this information through a press release.
According to ISPR, Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Waqar-uz-Zaman on behalf of the Army Chief, Air Vice Chief (Operation) Air Vice Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan on behalf of the Air Force Chief and Regional Commander Dhaka Naval Region Rear Admiral Masood Iqbal on behalf of the Navy Chief paid respects by placing wreaths on the Asim Jawad's coffin. Apart from this, senior military officers and members of other ranks were also present.
Before this, Asim Jawad's body was taken to the parade ground of a Bangladesh Air Force base in Chattogram, where his first Janaza was held.
Earlier, Asim Jawad and his Co-pilot Wing Commander Sohan Hasan Khan were injured after a trainer fighter jet of Bangladesh Air Force YAK-130 crashed into the Karnaphuli River in Patenga of Chattogram on Thursday morning. They were rescued and taken to the Navy hospital BNS Patenga where Squadron Leader Asim died while undergoing treatment.
