Sri Lanka in driver's seat on Day 1
Bangladesh fielders missed two catches and one run-out in the first session of the second and final Test of the series against Sri Lanka starting today (Saturday). The Lankans scored 314 runs for 4 wickets in 90 overs at the end of day 1 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.
Kusal Mendis scored the highest 93 runs for the team. Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud took 2 wickets for Bangladesh on his debut Test.
Sri Lanka scored 96 runs in the opening pair. Lankan opener Nishan Madushka was run-out, thanks to great fielding by Hasan Mahmud. He scored 57 runs off 105 balls with 6 fours. After the fall of the opening pair, Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis put up resistance in front of the Bangladesh bowlers.
Hasan Mahmud got the first wicket in the debut Test by breaking Karunaratna's stamp when Sri Lanka was at 210. Karunaratne scored 86 runs off 129 balls with 8 fours and 1 six. After Karunaratne's departure, Kusal kept the team's run wheel moving with Angelo Mathews. He continued to walk on the path of century. But Kusal, who scored 93 runs off 150 balls with 11 fours and 1 six, was the victim of Shakib Al Hasan.
After the departure of Kushal, Mathews was on the verge of forming a partnership with Dinesh Chandimal. In this situation, Bangladesh got success in the first over with the new ball at the end of 80 overs. Mathews, who scored 23 runs with 2 fours and 1 six, became victim of Hasan Mahmud.
Then Chandimal and captain Dhananjaya de Silva left the field after scoring 25 runs off the last 54 balls of the day. Chandimal is unbeaten on 34 with 2 four-sixes and Dhananjaya on 15 runs with 2 boundaries.
