Strike suspended, metrorail to operate Friday

The workers of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited have suspended their strike programme. As a result, the Metrorail will run as per schedule on Friday (February 21).

This information was revealed in a press release of the Metrorail workers on Thursday (February 20).

It said, "On the International Mother Language Day, with deep respect for the language martyrs and to show respect for the newly appointed Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, the strike programme, published in the media on February 17, has been postponed."

The release said, "According to the press releases published in the media on February 13 and February 17 regarding the formulation of self-contained job rules of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, a strong demand was made for the formulation of job rules for permanent officers and employees recruited through direct open recruitment of DMTCL. In view of this, the higher authorities of DMTCL have promised to formulate modern and realistic job rules within the next 30 days, subject to correction of errors and deviations in the draft job rules. Therefore, the strike program was postponed on Friday.”
