'Student-led party to contest in next polls in all seats'

The leaders of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement are set to form a political party which will contest the next national elections in all seats, said Rifat Rashid, a leader of the platform.

He said: "The student-led party will participate in the next [Jatiya Sangsad] election. It will field candidates in all 300 constituencies."

Rashid, a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said this at a views-exchange programme in the Rajfulbaria area of Savar.

"Even if the number of constituencies increases later, they [the party] will field candidates in each seat. After that party wins, they will form a government and implement all the changes that were desired during the mass uprising. This is our commitment to the nation," he added.

Speaking about the planned party, he said, "It will be led by youths. We will, of course, value those who are experienced.

"Starting from the advisory board, there are other special positions. Our seniors will advise us. Prominent figures in Bangladesh, including local dignitaries, will also find a place in our political party."

Stating that several reform commissions have been formed, Rashid said, "To fulfil the promises we made in July, including banning the Awami League, we need the report of these commissions. We will fulfil our commitments through the judicial structure established based on those reports."

"We will not allow the Awami League to participate in the elections. We will stay determined about this. All the cases will actually be completed through the [International Crimes] Tribunal and judicial process," added the Student Movement leader.
