Students to be allowed for college admission despite failing two SSC subjects
As per the updated curriculum, students failing one or two subjects in SSC can still secure college admission. Nonetheless, they must undergo a public assessment within the following two years and pass the subjects.
This information has been obtained from the report titled 'Evaluation Strategy and Implementation Guidelines for National Curriculum 2022', prepared by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB).
The Curriculum Development and Revision Core Committee approved it on Tuesday (May 28). The report will now be finalized at the National Curriculum Coordinating Committee (NCCC) meeting through the NCTB board meeting.
As per the report, the new system is scheduled to be implemented in the 2026 SSC examination. In December of that year, the SSC exam will be held only on Class 10 textbooks.
Under this new regulation, students failing in one or two subjects in the SSC examination can still secure admission to Class XI. However, they must pass the failed subjects by participating in a public assessment within the subsequent two years.
Professor Md. Moshiuzzaman, a member of NCTB (curriculum), informed the media, "Currently, if a student fails in one or two subjects in SSC, despite having the opportunity to retake those exams, they are unable to secure college admission. This results in a loss of one or more years from the student's life. Under the new curriculum, if a student fails in two subjects, they will still be admitted to the Class XI and have the opportunity to retake exams in all failed subjects."
