Sugar supply adequate, no chances of supply shortage: Titu
State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu has assured that there won’t be any shortage of sugar supply in the market as the country has adequate product in stock.
He said: "The mill owners have sufficient stock of sugar. We are monitoring the recent fire in a sugar warehouse and are in touch with various mills."
He said this at the opening ceremony of TCB's product sale programme at subsidized prices at the Polytechnic ground adjacent to Purba Colony Bazar at Tibet intersection in the capital on Thursday (March 7).
The Minister of State for Commerce said that the price of food in the international market has increased due to various global reasons.
"Still we are distributing products at affordable prices. We are selling Tk163 oil for Tk100, Tk140 sugar for Tk70."
He also said that daily necessities are being given to one crore people every month through TCB on the instructions of the Prime Minister.
"Digital cards are being given to TCB customers after verifying their information. By selling products to these one crore customers through TCB, the market pressure will be reduced a lot. As a result, consumers can shop easily," he added.
Ahsanul Islam Titu said that many times customers have to work hard to buy TCB products. To reduce this suffering, TCB dealership shops will be designated.
