A prisoner at Cumilla Central Jail has died from a heart attack on Saturday morning (May 31), according to prison authorities. The deceased has been identified as Md Imam Hossain Bachchu, vice-president of the Cumilla Metropolitan Swechasebak League. According to prison warden Md Abdullahel Al-Amin, Bachchu fell ill around 9.00am and was immediately taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Legal formalities are underway, and the body will be handed over to the family. Relatives have already identified the body. Bachchu, a resident of the Mogaltuli area in Cumilla city, had been detained in connection with the murder case of lawyer Rafiqul Islam, who was killed during the recent anti-discrimination student movement.

কুমিল্লা কেন্দ্রীয় কারাগারে মহানগর স্বেচ্ছাসেবকলীগের সহ-সভাপতি মো. ইমাম হোসেন বাচ্চু মৃত্যুবরণ করেছেন। শনিবার (৩১ মে) সকালে হৃদরোগে আক্রান্ত হয়ে তিনি মারা যান বলে জানিয়েছে কারা কর্তৃপক্ষ। কারাগারের জেলার মো. আব্দুল্লাহেল আল-আমিন জানান, সকাল ৯টার দিকে অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়লে ইমাম হোসেন বাচ্চুকে দ্রুত কুমিল্লা মেডিকেল কলেজ (কুমেক) হাসপাতালে নেয়া হয়। সেখানে চিকিৎসকরা তাকে মৃত ঘোষণা করেন। আইনি প্রক্রিয়া শেষে মরদেহ পরিবারের কাছে হস্তান্তর করা হবে বলে জানান তিনি। ইতোমধ্যে স্বজনরা মরদেহ দেখে গেছেন। ইমাম হোসেন বাচ্চু কুমিল্লা মহানগর স্বেচ্ছাসেবক লীগের সহ-সভাপতি ছিলেন। তার বাড়ি নগরীর মোগলটুলি এলাকায়। জানা গেছে, তিনি বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলনের সময় নিহত আইনজীবী রফিকুল ইসলাম হত্যা মামলায় আটক ছিলেন।
