Tamim Iqbal slams BCB for neglecting cricket

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has openly criticised the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), saying that the board is more focused on internal politics than on the game itself.

Speaking to the media from Pakistan, where he is currently on a personal visit, Tamim expressed deep concern over the current state of cricket in Bangladesh.

“At the BCB, everything is happening—except cricket,” Tamim said. “The focus is always on who is coming, who is going, who will be the president, who will not. These are part of the process, but not the main issue. People are losing interest in Bangladesh cricket.”

His comments come amid ongoing debates surrounding changes in BCB leadership, particularly the exit of Farooq Ahmed and the arrival of Aminul Islam Bulbul. The internal shuffle has dominated discussions even as Bangladesh prepares for a T20 series against Pakistan.

Tamim emphasised that the board’s priorities are misplaced. “I feel we are more serious about unimportant things. No one is asking how cricket will improve or how we’ll move forward,” he said.

He also noted the lack of a clear vision for the game’s future in the country. “You have to admit that we are struggling. The first step is accepting the problem, then finding a way to move forward. But unfortunately, all the focus is elsewhere.”

Tamim urged current and future board members to concentrate on what really matters. “I don’t care who becomes president, but I request those in charge to think about cricket. Otherwise, the game will continue to lose its appeal.”
