TCB withdraws decision to hike sugar price
The state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has stepped back from its decision to hike the sugar price to Tk100 considering the sufferings of the public.
TCB spokesperson Humayun Kabir told reporters in an audio message on Thursday morning that the price of TCB sugar will not be Tk 100. It would be sold at the previous price Tk 70.
Earlier on Wednesday, TCB issued a press release saying the price of sugar will be hiked by Tk 30 per kilogram under its sales initiative.
The TCB will begin selling some essential items at subsidised rates to 10 million low-income beneficiaries starting from Thursday.
Additionally, the TCB will offer edible oil, pulses, rice, and dates at discounted prices to the beneficiaries in honor of the holy month of Ramadan.
As part of the TCB's sales campaign, two liters of edible oil will be priced at Tk100 per liter, two kilograms of lentils at Tk60 per kilogram, one kilogram of sugar at Tk70, dates at Tk150 per kilogram, and five kilograms of rice at Tk30 per kilogram.
