Teen beaten to death by mob on suspicion of theft in Tongi

A teenager was killed, and another seriously injured in a mob beating in Tongi, Gazipur, after being accused of robbery.

The incident took place on Wednesday evening in the Haque Mor area of Dattapara, Tongi.

The deceased, Sabbir Hossain, 18, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at a hospital around midnight. The identity of the other injured man could not be confirmed yet.

According to local sources, a series of muggings occurred in the area on Wednesday evening. Shortly afterward, locals apprehended Sabbir and the other teen, suspecting them of being involved in the crimes.

The two were subjected to a mob beating, leaving them both critically injured.

At around 1:30am, locals brought the injured men to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, where Sabbir was pronounced dead during treatment.

The unknown teen was not found at the hospital when police arrived.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kaiser Ahmed of Tongi East police station said that an investigation is underway, and a case will be filed.

Sabbir's body has been sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for an autopsy.
