Former police constable Nazmul Tarek has filed a defamation case against Lata Samaddar, Suborna Mostafa and 18 others in connection with the controversial teep scandal at the capital's Farmgate.

He filed the case with Dhaka Chief Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Actor Anisur Rahman Milan, Saju Khadem, director Chayanika Chowdhury, Professor Malay Mala, Saymon Sadik, Manoj Pramanik, Jyotika Jyoti, Bhavna and many others have been made accused in the case.

Nazmul claimed that on April 2, 2022, he had an altercation with Lata Samaddar after he lost control over his bike and hit the lecturer of Theater and Media Studies at Tejgaon College. Later, she alleged that riding a bike, the cop teased her for wearing ‘teep’ and at one stage, he tried to run over her legs.

After that, many people protested on social media without knowing it, blaming him, which caused damage to the police force and personal reputation, said the case statement.

The complaint states that many people from the theater world have deliberately insulted the police and the Muslim community by protesting by wearing teep on their foreheads.

The case states that Nazmul suffered social and family harm as a result of these activities.
