Teletalk SIM now to operate on Robi network too
After about 8 months of waiting, Robi has got the permission of 'National Roaming' with Teletalk. Where Teletalk customers can use Robi's network and Robi's customers can use Teletalk's network.
As a result, if there is no teletalk network anywhere or it is weak, then teletalk customers will get all kinds of mobile services, including phone call, using Robi's network in that area. Again, this same benefit will be available to Robi's customers as well. They can use the Teletalk network.
The top level of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications confirmed the matter.
Earlier, BTRC had sought approval from the Department of Telecommunications to grant this permission to Robi following Robi's application. The regulatory body has now confirmed that Robi has been granted this permission.
Banglalink-Teletalk has already launched this national roaming service in the country on March 26 this year. Inaugurating this service, the Minister of State for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak said, "Under the guidance of Prime Minister's Information Technology Advisor Sajib Wazed Joy, a groundbreaking decision has been taken to launch National Roaming in Bangladesh."
Robi's Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer Shahedul Alam said that they will launch it on a trial basis within a few months. They want to launch it commercially after a maximum of 6 months of testing.
He said, "To make it successful, there needs to be a change in the ecosystem. The government should give importance to solving the problems in the 'National Roaming' process."
"Teletalk customers will undoubtedly be benefited from Robi's network," he added.
Robi had given details in the application to BTRC about this National Roaming. They showed there the advantages and challenges of roaming with different sharing methods, modalities, connectivity topologies of National Roaming. Robi said that multivendor integration in two networks in radio core signaling between operators is a big challenge. There is an IP conflict issue. All in all, the ecosystem has to be created for this.
Currently, Robi has 5 crore 83 lakh 40 thousand subscribers while Teletalk has 65 lakh.
