The students of Dhaka University (DU) became agitated on Sunday (July 14) midnight protesting the prime minister’s remark on the participants of quota reform movement.

The students marched on the campus streets chanting slogans “Tumi ke ami ke, Razakar-Rajakar”, (“Who are you, who am I? Razakar, razakar”).

Various discussions and criticisms are going over the slogans of the students. In response to such a slogan, social welfare minister Dr Dipu Moni has said that those who identify themselves as Razakars have no right to march with the blood-bathed red and green flag of the martyrs of the Liberation War.

She made the comment in a post from his verified ID on social media Facebook on Sunday night.

“They have no right to hold the national flag in their hands or tie it on their foreheads,” she said in the FB post.

Earlier in the afternoon, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a press conference about her visit to China at her official residence Ganabhaban. In response to a journalist's question at the press conference, she said, "Why are they so angry against the freedom fighters? If the grandchildren of freedom fighters do not get jobs, will Razakar's grandchildren get those jobs? This is my question to the countrymen.”

The Prime Minister's statement added insult to the injury of the protestors. As a result, students participating in the quota reform movement started taking to streets on different public university campuses across the country after 10:30 pm.
