TIB demands accountability for Benazir's massive corruption
Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has expressed deep concern over former Inspector General of Police (IGP) and RAB chief Benazir Ahmed's abuse of power to acquire illegal wealth.
The organization demanded accountability of those involved in this massive corruption, says a press release on Monday (June 3).
According to the release, TIB asserted that abuse of unbridled power by senior officials creates 'Frankenstein-like personalities' and undermines state accountability. The organization calls for ultimate legal action against those who facilitate such misdeeds. At the same time, TIB demanded compensation for those who were forced to sell their land to the former police chief.
Executive Director of TIB Dr Iftekharuzzaman said property was forcibly acquired through intimidation and in collusion with law enforcement and government forces. Victims' chances of justice were tactfully cut off. As a result, the main accused needs to be given exemplary punishment and compensation to the victims.
The ongoing probe into the corruption of the former IGP has revealed new information about his illegal assets. Iftekharuzzaman questioned how Benazir Ahmed and his family fled the country despite these serious allegations.
