Tigers face West Indies in first Test today
Bangladesh set to face West Indies in their final Test series of the year, scheduled to begin tonight at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. The match begins at 8pm BST.
Bangladesh do not have pleasant memories of beginning their Caribbean tour in Antigua as they were bundled out for 103 and 43 in the previous two occasions.
Batting has been the biggest worry for Bangladesh in 2024 and the record at Antigua would not really inspire them much when the visitors are without their full-time skipper Najmul Hossain and veteran campaigner Mushfiqur Rahim due to injury. Mehidy Hasan will lead the side in absence of Najmul.
The hosts have a lethal pace bowling attack with Jayden Seales, Shamar Joseph, Alzarri Joseph and the ever-present Kemar Roach who has a terrific record against Bangladesh.
Bangladesh team management will have discussions regarding whether to play an extra spinner or a pacer on Antigua pitch. If they go with an extra spinner, Hasan Murad may get a chance after his hattrick in the warm-up match. Either of Taskin Ahmed or Shoriful Islam will also be raring to go in the first Test. Liton Kumer Das will return to the playing XI after missing the second Test against South Africa last month due to fever.
