Timely action will be taken if Minister-MP relatives remain in election race: Quader
Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, "Timely action will be taken if there is a violation of the party's decision to withdraw the candidacy of Minister-MPs' relatives in the upazila elections."
Quader came up with the remarks at a press conference at the Awami League’s Dhanmondi office on Wednesday (April 24). He said, "Candidates have the option to withdraw their candidature until the day before the election. Therefore, apart from the official withdrawal deadline of the Election Commission (EC), it is possible to withdraw the candidature itself. So the party will wait until the last day."
He said, "The Awami League will stay vigilant to prevent BNP from carrying out any terrorist activities in the name of their programme on April 26. However, both parties previously organized peaceful programs in the capital on the same day before the election. Therefore, the Awami League will also opt for a peaceful programme on April 26."
Sheikh Hasina, the President of the Awami League, has instructed the relatives of party ministers and Members of Parliament (MPs) to refrain from participating in the sixth upazila parishad election. Additionally, those who have already obtained nomination papers are directed to withdraw their candidacy. Organizational measures will be taken against anyone who fails to comply with the instructions.
