Tk391cr ginger imported thru Bhomra land port
In the first 10 months (July-April) of the current financial year, the import of ginger through Bhomra land port in Satkhira has more than doubled compared to the same period of the last year.
Traders and importers said that imports have increased to meet the increased demand in the country's market.
According to the revenue branch of Bhomra customs station, 14,800 tonnes of ginger was imported through this port during July-April of 2022-23 fiscal year.
The import value of which was Tk 143.02 crore. During the same period of the financial year 2023-24, the import of ginger through Bhomra port increased to 35,762 tonnes. At that time the total value of imported ginger was Tk 391 crore. As such, the import of ginger through this port has increased by 20,962 tonnes in the current financial year.
In this regard, Md Abu Hasan, owner of Rafsan Enterprises that imports spicy products through Bhomra port, said that due to increased demand in the country's market, his company has recently increased the import of ginger.
He said the import of this product has increased by at least 60 percent in the current financial year compared to the same period of the last financial year.
“These imported gingers are supplied to the local markets as well as to different regions of the country including Dhaka and Chittagong.'
Satkhira district agricultural marketing officer SM Abdullah said, "The prices of ginger and cumin have decreased in the market. However, we are monitoring so that the price of other spicy products also remains normal. Immediate action will be taken against any trader who charges higher prices of daily commodities to make extra profit.”
