Give highest priority to agriculture in budget
In recent years, Bangladesh has made significant economic progress across various sectors, with agriculture being the most visibly advanced. Previously, Bangladesh was a country with a food deficit, importing an average of 15 to 20 lakh tons of food annually. During the Liberation War, agricultural production was severely disrupted, resulting in a food deficit of 30 lakh tons in 1971-72, which was about 30% of the total production. Currently, the deficit has decreased to below 15%.
PM seeks Australian support in agriculture
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today sought cooperation from Australia to boost agriculture production as Australia has technological expertise in this sector.
Shing fish's life secret revealed for the first time in Bangladesh
In order to maintain food and nutrition security by sustaining the species of native shing fish, the genome sequence of this native shing fish has been revealed for the first time and the possible genes determining male and female fish have been identified by a team led by Professor Dr Taslima Khanam, from Fisheries Biology and Genetics Department of Bangladesh Agricultural University.
Stand beside people instead of iftar party: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged people to stand by people with that money instead of spending excessively to organize iftar party. She made this call in a cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister's office on Wednesday (March 13).
