Smuggling along Indo-Bangladesh border sees sharp drop
Tension and incidents along the India-Bangladesh border always existed. Recently Bangladesh witnessed a massive political turmoil and violent protest led by student organisations in August this year. Ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to step down on August 5 and fled to India following the collapse of the Awami League-administration. An interim government headed by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus took over.
3-day ban on Bangladeshis traveling to India
Bangladeshis have been banned from traveling to India on tourist visas for three days. The ban has been issued due to Lok Sabha elections in India's West Bengal. The ban came into effect on Friday (May 17) from 6:00pm onwards.
Trade thru Benapole port to be suspended for 5-day
Loading and unloading of goods at the port will also remain suspended to stop the movement of trucks, vans and lorries on highways three days before and three days after Eid-ul-Fitr and Pohela Boisakh to ensure hassle-free travel for holidaymakers.

A Bangladeshi man has been shot to death and two others were wounded in firing by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) members along Lalmonirhat border in Kaliganj upazila.

Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud has said the use of non-lethal weapons has increased in recent days compared to the past, leading to a decrease in death toll along Bangladesh-India border.
