Why Al-Shabaab Joined Somalia's Pirates

After being held by Somali pirates for 31 days, the Bangladeshi flag carrier cargo ship "MV Abdullah" and its 23 crew members have been released. The ship, along with the 23 sailors, was hijacked by Somali pirates on its way from Mozambique, Africa, carrying coal, to Dubai on March 12th. The vessel is owned by Bangladesh's KSRM Group.

“We are making all-out efforts to bring them home. Everything possible by us are being conducted. Talks are ongoing with the pirates in a very friendly manner,” he said while addressing a views exchange with journalists at the YNT Centre at Dewanji Pond in Chattogram city on Saturday (April 6) afternoon.

Bangladeshi ship MV Abdullah has been ‍seized by the pirates of Somalia in the Indian Ocean. A total of 23 Bangladeshi citizens are held hostage by the pirates on that ship. The ship belongs to the KSRM Group.
