Foreign language use must follow national language policy

A state remains dynamic through internal and interstate conflicts and synthesis. Within a state, separate groups arise based on factors such as tribes, religious communities, regional characteristics, linguistic differences, etc. Diversity prevails in the state’s populace. By acknowledging this diversity and adhering to the principle of unity and coordination within diversity, the government must address the issues arising from this diversity in the internal demographic of the state. While advocating for pluralism in culture, if divisions are created within the nation, unity will break down, and the state will not endure. This undermines the very conditions necessary for the state's existence.

Why no commission for education reform?

The interim government has formed several commissions to implement reforms in various sectors. These committees have already submitted their reports with recommendations to the government. However, the unfortunate reality is that no commission has been formed to reform the nation’s backbone — the education system. Although several commissions in the past have submitted reports for educational reforms, no government has implemented the recommendations of these education commissions. As a result, the current education system is unable to meet the demands of the times. We are producing a highly educated workforce, but there are doubts about how well-educated they actually are and whether they can contribute to building a prosperous state. Without creating a modern, technology-driven, and vocational education system, the nation will never reach its desired goals. The workforce our education system is producing is not capable of competing on the international stage.

Strong government support is necessary to prevent obstruction

Among the countries most vulnerable to global climate change disasters, Bangladesh stands out. Therefore, it is evident how crucial environmental protection is for Bangladesh. If we cannot preserve the integrity of our environment, it will be self-destructive for us. Since we are not very conscious as a nation, we can easily overlook greater interests for trivial gains. Hence, by neglecting environmental protection, we are not only displaying negligence but also extreme irresponsibility and ignorance.

Yunus is misleading public with UNESCO award claim: Education Minister

The minister said: "Dr Yunus is creating confusion among public over receiving the award which is immoral. The confusion arises from Yunus passing off the award given by Israeli sculptor Hedva Ser, a UNESCO goodwill ambassador, as if it were directly awarded by UNESCO itself. This is humiliating for our country."

What is the future of Bengali literature?

The prospect of any literature is embedded within its language. And the life of a language remains vibrant through literary discussions. However, for a language to achieve widespread recognition, it requires a strong economic flow and involvement in far-reaching political activities. Relevantly, the economic market for Bengali literature is relatively small, but the linguistic community of this language is vast. As a mother tongue, Bengali holds the fifth position in the world language rankings and is positioned seventh as a widely-used language. In the Indo-European linguistic community, more than 22 crore people speak Bengali. In this relatively small economic market, authors, publishers, and related collaborators may find it challenging to lead a comfortable lifestyle due to limited opportunities. This issue serves as another obstacle to the potential of Bengali literature. However, I do believe that our current and future generations will overcome this obstacle.
