Tribunal orders arrest of 6 including former IGP Mamun
In a case involving allegations of genocide, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, along with 5 other law enforcement officials, have been arrested. The order was issued by a three-member bench led by the Chairman of the International Crimes Tribunal, Justice Mohammad Golam Mortuza Majumder, on Wednesday.
The accused were presented in the International Crimes Tribunal, located at the old High Court premises, after 10 a.m. The tribunal’s Chief Prosecutor, Mohammad Tajul Islam, said, "Out of the eight officials in this case, two had already been arrested by the tribunal in the past. Today, they are appearing for their regular hearings. Six other officials have been arrested in connection with crimes against humanity."
In addition to former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, the officials arrested include the former Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC), Major General (retd.) Ziaul Ahsan; former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jatrabari Police Station, Abul Hasan; dismissed Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Dhaka District, Abdullahil Kafi; former OC of Gulshan Police Station, Mohammad Mazharul Haque; and former Inspector of Dhaka North DB, Mohammad Arafat Hossain.
Earlier, former Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Mirpur Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Jasim Uddin Molla, and former Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) of Dhaka District Police, Mohammad Shahidul Islam, were also arrested in the same case.
