Donald Trump has visited wildfire-ravaged Los Angeles on his first trip as the new US president.

He arrived in California on Friday, Reuters reported.

Trump said he would work with state Governor Gavin Newsom to control the fires in Los Angeles.

Governor Newsom welcomed Trump at the Los Angeles airport. He asked Trump for help in controlling the California wildfires. Trump later told reporters, "We're trying to get some work done and you can get it done by working together with the state government. We're going to get it done. They're going to need a lot of federal help."

Trump and Newsom have had a rocky relationship in the past. Newsom is a Democrat. Trump has previously been highly critical of California authorities' role in controlling the wildfires.

Los Angeles has been ravaged by multiple wildfires in recent weeks. At least three more are still burning in the area.

The US president visited North Carolina, which was devastated by Hurricane Helen, before heading to Los Angeles. Last September, Hurricane Helen, a category four storm, hit the region, killing at least 43 people.
