Twin daughters of rickshaw puller drown in Sherpur ditch
Two twin sisters drowned in a roadside ditch in Sherpur.
The deceased are identified as Shila and Nila (12). They were daughters of rickshaw puller Md. Abdus Salam from Chhoto Jhawyer Char Namapara village in Lachhmanpur Union under Sadar Upazila.
Around 12:30 pm on Saturday (May 31), it began to rain. During that time, Shila and Nila, along with two other children, went to bathe in a rainwater-filled ditch near their home. Suddenly, Shila and Nila slipped underwater and drowned. Hearing the screams of the other children, local residents rushed to the scene and recovered the twins' bodies from the water.
Mohklesh Ali, a member of Ward No. 8 of Lachhmanpur Union Parishad, said, “Their father, Abdus Salam, pulls a rickshaw in Dhaka to earn a living.”
Md. Zubaidul Alam, Officer in Charge of Sherpur Police Station, said, “We haven’t received any report of the drowning yet. We're looking into it.”
