Two City Corporation polls held peacefully: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has said the Mymensingh and Cumilla City Corporation polls were conducted peacefully. He made the remark while talking to the media at the Election Building in Agargaon today (March 9) after the voting concluded.

The CEC said, "So far, no candidate has complained that the election was influenced or interfered with. In our view, the voting was peaceful."

He said, "There were 18 unpleasant incidents in the election. A total of 51 people have been arrested in these incidents. Among these, two notable incidents have occurred in Comilla. There was a shooting in one place, a person was stabbed in another, but these incidents did not affect the voting."

There are 242,458 voters in Cumilla City Corporation and 336,496 voters in Mymensingh City Corporation. A total of 146 candidates are contesting for the councillor posts and 69 for the reserved councillor posts.
