Two killed as cattle-laden truck overturns in Cumilla

Two people lost their lives, and four others sustained injuries in an accident where a truck transporting cattle overturned at Eliotganj in Cumilla.

The incident took place at the Putia U-turn area along the Dhaka-Chattogram highway around 10:15 am on Wednesday (June 12).

The deceased, identified as Rasel, hailed from Laksam in Cumilla and worked as a cattle trader. The other victim was the helper of the truck.

According to the highway police, a truck carrying cattle from Dhaka to Laksam in Cumilla veered out of control and crashed into a covered van from behind at the Putia U-turn on the highway. Both vehicles, loaded with cattle, toppled into ditches at the roadside.

Monjurul Alam Molla, OC of Eliotganj Highway police station, said, "Our team rushed to the spot and rescued both the deceased and the injured. The injured individuals have been taken to Gouripur Upazila Health Complex for treatment."
