UK interested in cooperation in aviation sector

The United Kingdom has expressed interest in supporting the development of Bangladesh's aviation industry.

British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cook expressed this interest during a meeting with Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan at the latter’s residence in the capital Today (April 24).

The British high commissioner said, “The UK has a longstanding partnership with Bangladesh's aviation industry. The two countries have previously worked together in various sectors of the aviation industry, including the development of airport security systems. The UK is keen to cooperate in a wide range of areas including developing the technical skills of Bangladesh's aviation industry, creating trained personnel and further improving safety systems. The UK wants to be a partner in transforming Bangladesh into an aviation hub.”

Welcoming the UK’s interest in the transformation of Bangladesh into an aviation hub, the minister said, “It will be a pleasure for the two countries to work together for the development of the aviation industry. There are opportunities for the two countries to work together in the aviation industry."

Faruq Khan said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, major development has been achieved in all the airports of the country, including the construction of the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, and further development work is ongoing.

He also said that the government is working to convert Saidpur airport into a regional hub. After the completion of development work, Saidpur Airport will play a game changer in terms of regional connectivity, economic cooperation and trade between Bangladesh, Nepal, India and Bhutan.
