After the militant attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, tensions between India and Pakistan have heightened due to retaliatory actions from both sides. In response, UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged both countries to show "Maximum Restraint." He expressed significant concern over the situation and confirmed that he is closely following the ongoing developments.

On Thursday (April 24) at midnight, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric informed the media that Guterres had expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. He emphasized that the recent retaliatory actions were worsening relations between the two nations, which could potentially lead to further escalation.

The UN Secretary-General called for both countries to resolve any issues through meaningful dialogue and mutual engagement, which should be the way forward to achieve peaceful solutions.

On Tuesday (April 22), gunmen attacked tourists in Pahalgam, Indian-controlled Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 26 people, including 25 Indians. India accused Pakistan of being responsible for the attack and responded by canceling visas for Pakistani citizens and suspending the Sindh water agreement. In retaliation, Pakistan canceled visas for Indian nationals, halted trade, and closed its airspace.

These reciprocal actions have sparked heightened tensions between the two nations, raising growing concerns in the international community.
