The United Nations wants justice for those involved in the massive violence, loss of life, and casualties during the recent student movement in Bangladesh.

UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated this in a press briefing on Tuesday (August 20).

A journalist asked Stephane Dujarric, 'Bangladesh is moving towards stability. The United Nations has expressed its support to the country in this difficult time. But has the UN Secretary-General said anything about bringing to justice those responsible for killing 819 people and injuring 25,000 people? Most of them were killed by bullets or dictator Sheikh Hasina's orders to shoot.'

In response to this question, Stephane Dujarric said, 'We have been talking about accountability since the beginning of this particular crisis. Accountability is needed for violence, loss of life, and violations of human and political rights.'
