Uncertainty over due to improvement in economic situation: Finance minister
Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali has said that all doubts have been resolved due to the improvement of the economic situation.
The economic situation improved due to the increase in remittance flow and export earnings, and a re3duction in the shortage of foreign currency, he said while addressing a pre-budget discussion with the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) at the Secretariat on Sunday (March 31).
The finance minister said those who thought that there would be a situation like Sri Lanka in the country; their idea has also been proved wrong.
The finance minister said, “There was a doubt about the economy, but it has passed. The representative of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) came to the country and said, ‘We are waiting for your proposal. You place the proposal first, and then we will provide the money. There is no shortage of money’.”
He said, "After getting such an assurance, there is no scope for any doubt. The budget is being prepared in the same way as we prepare usually.”
Mahmud Ali said all products are available in the market according to the needs of the people of the country. Yes, prices of some essentials are increasing, but some are decreasing also. That's how a free market economy works.
A set of budget proposals were presented on behalf of ERF in the meeting. The finance minister assured to consider these proposals in the formulation of the next budget.
