Upazila polls: Central bank seeks information of candidates to identify loan defaulters
Bangladesh Bank has instructed all returning officers to provide information about the candidates of the second phase of upazila parishad (UP) elections so that loan defaulters do not become candidates.
The additional director of Credit Information Bureau Md Anisur Rahman has written to the returning officers to provide the information according to the prescribed form about the debts of the candidates who filed nomination papers in the second phase of the UP elections.
He sought information over the candidates’ full name, father's name, mother's name, husband's name (if applicable), national identity card number, taxpayer identification number and date of birth.
He asked the returning officers to send the information through e-mail with the name, signature and phone number of the returning officer/assistant returning officer.
The second phase of the sixth UP election will be held on May 21, 2024. About 2055 candidates have submitted their nomination papers in the second phase upazila elections.
EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said that 730 people have submitted nomination papers for the post of chairman, 763 people for the post of vice chairman and 562 people for the post of female vice chairman.
