Uruguay's Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin met with Professor Muhammad Yunus on Saturday, emphasizing the need to enhance trade and investment relations between Uruguay and Bangladesh.

The meeting, held at a hotel in Rome shortly after attending Pope Francis’s funeral mass, focused on deepening economic collaboration, particularly between Dhaka and Mercosur member countries, to foster mutual prosperity.

The two leaders discussed a range of issues, including the global trade landscape and the importance of strengthening cooperation between Latin America and Asia. They also explored strategies for investing in youth and promoting social business enterprises, according to Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.

Both reaffirmed their shared vision of a “Three Zero” world: zero unemployment, zero wealth concentration, and zero net carbon emissions.

Professor Yunus stressed the need for regular high-level dialogues and invited Minister Lubetkin to visit Bangladesh at the earliest opportunity.

Also attending the meeting were Lamiya Morshed, SDG Coordinator for the Bangladesh government; Tareq Ariful Islam, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the Vatican; and Rokebul Haque, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Italy.
