US government not involved in 'National Prayer Breakfast': Embassy

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury have been invited to the 'National Prayer Breakfast' to be held in Washington, DC, the United States. This information was confirmed by BNP Chairperson's Press Wing member Shairul Kabir Khan. In addition, a post was also made on the verified Facebook page of BNP's Media Cell stating this information.

However, the US Embassy in Dhaka confirmed that the US government is not organizing any event called 'National Prayer Breakfast'.

On Saturday night, embassy spokesperson Asha Beh informed that the US is not organizing any event called 'National Prayer Breakfast'. The US government is not involved in this event. The US government has nothing to do with organizing or financing this event. The US and other countries participate in the 'National Prayer Breakfast' event every year. The US government always welcomes the participation of civil society in protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms around the world, including freedom of religion and belief.

Asha Beh also said that the statements, comments or opinions of individuals or officials participating in the IRF Summit or the ‘National Prayer Breakfast’ do not represent the views or positions of the US government.

Earlier, the ‘National Prayer Breakfast’ was held in Berlin, Germany in October 2024.

Earlier, a post by the BNP media cell said, ‘BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury have been invited by the newly elected US President Donald Trump to participate in the ‘National Prayer Breakfast’ event to be held in Washington, DC, USA. It will be held on 5-6 February 2025.’

It further said, ‘Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP Chairperson’s Press Wing, gave this information in a message sent to the media on Saturday (January 11). The National Prayer Breakfast was held under the leadership of the US Congressional Congress.’
