Uttara West police station attacked to snatch 3 students
The Uttara West police station came under attack by 'Anti-discrimination student movement members' on following the detaining of three students facing extortion allegations.
The attack took place at about 7:00pm on Tuesday when a team of Uttara West police detained three students in their jurisdiction after extortion allegations were filed with the Uttara East police, according to the police and witnesses.
They said that several hundred men attacked the police station.
Police said that some of the attackers identified themselves as belonging to the Student Against Discrimination platform.
‘The angry mob hurled bricks at the Uttara West police station to snatch the detainees,’ police said.
A meeting between the students and DMP Uttara division deputy commissioner was underway at the Uttara East police station over the incident till filing of the report at 9:45pm.
Asked about the attack, Uttara West police officer-in-charge Md Hafizur Rahman said: "I cannot comment on the issue. Our senior officers will comment on this."
DMP Uttara Division deputy commissioner Rawnak Jahanconfirmed the matter.
